Nine years ago in 2013, we opened our doors for the very first time - bringing specialty coffee to our home city of Southampton.

From the beginning, we wanted our coffee houses to feel like a home from home, a living room space - welcoming to everyone. It’s why we modeled our spaces on my grandparents' home,

Margaret and George Mettrick - full of character, fun and the warmest hospitality that made you feel like the most important person in the world. The kettle was always on. Cakes fresh from the oven. Sunday roast being prepped.

OUR STORY

Back in 2013 we opened Mettricks Old Town, the first speciality coffee house in Southampton - in fact one of the first in Hampshire. Now here we are in 2021, and whilst it's been a bumpy ride, we are back making Southampton's tastiest coffees, brunches and cocktails.

BETTER COFFEE

We have always believed that the best coffee is the coffee that you enjoy. But our mission has been to bring Better Coffee to Southampton - encouraging experimentation and a constant desire to learn in an accessible, none preachy way. And wow, we’ve learnt a lot along the way too!

For as much as we love it when we see eyes light up at the first sip of a filter coffee that challenges everything you ever thought you knew about a coffee, we are just as thrilled to make your daily flat white just as you like it. And now we have finally sorted our gas connection, we are ready to start roasting our very own coffee here in Southampton - fulfilling a dream we had all those years ago.

FRESH, TASTY, LOCAL

We’ve also baked, prepped and served fresh food from scratch using real ingredients from the start. Fresh. Tasty. Local. Three words that have been repeated almost as frequently as Better Coffee. From Shanice’s scones and Maz’s brownies at Mettricks Old Town, to the first Mettricks ‘bakery’ in the Bargate basement all the way to today, where we serve a full brunch through to evening food menu cooked by some of our cities most exciting chefs, working with some of our regions best supplies, from proper kitchens and cakes, bakes (and soon breads) being baked by Joanne and our bakery team.
