9 years of mettricks

In September 2013, we opened our doors for the very first time - bringing speciality coffee to Southampton. From the beginning, we wanted our coffee houses to feel like a home from home, a living room space for our city - welcoming to everyone. It’s why we modelled our spaces on our great grandparents' home, Margaret and George Mettrick - full of character, fun and the warmest hospitality that made you feel like the most important person in the world. The kettle was always on. Cakes fresh from the oven. Sunday roast being prepped.

Ever since, our mission has been to bring Better Coffee to Southampton. We were the first speciality coffee house in our city, and it’s not all been easy - encouraging experimentation and a constant desire to learn in an accessible, non-preachy way. We’ve learnt a lot along the way! And now we are ready to start roasting our very own coffee here in Southampton - fulfilling a dream we had all those years ago that kick started our 9 years of Better Coffee.

Alongside our commitment to coffee we are also passionate about fresh, tasty & local food. Three words that have been repeated almost as frequently as Better Coffee. Fresh Ingredients, from top notch local suppliers prepared in our kitchens by some of our cities most exciting chefs, making truly tasty brunch served all day and burgers till late. We now have some of the best chefs we've ever had leading our kitchens and we are looking forward to building on our food offering over the coming months.

And ofcourse, as the saying goes; But First Coffee… And then Cocktails! We are excited to bring back Southampton's most interesting cocktail bar, The Attic upstairs at Mettricks Guildhall this Friday 16th. Chris and the team put just as much thought and attention in to mixology and the cosy, speakeasy vibes as we have always put in to Mettricks. Thank you to everyone that has been a part of our story these last 9 years, our lovely customers, our friends and family, and today in particular to the amazing people who have pulled on a checkered shirt, chef whites and apron and pulled some of the best shots of espresso, served up the tastiest brunches, and delivered the warmest welcomes every day.
