Our mission is to bring Better Coffee and Fresh, Made From Scratch Food to Southampton. This starts with the quality of the coffee and locally sourced food that we serve, but includes our commitment to fully trained, expert baristas and chefs at each of our sites. It includes the great team that backs that up, the quality of our complementary products and the quality of our working environment. Put simply, Better Coffee is far more than just what is in your cup (though that is important).
We also want our business to have a positive impact on our local economy and community. Which is why, whenever possible, we source locally, from within our city and county. It is why we open our doors to community events, local artists and musicians. It is why we are home to numerous entrepreneurs and students. And is why we will actively talk up our city and all that happens here.
Mettricks is based on an ethos of family values and warm hospitality, and trying to do things right (just like everyone, we make mistakes - but our heart is in getting Better every day). From the quality of our products, the care we put in to serving our customers through to every part of how we run our small business. Our interiors are inspired by Grandma Great's living room - homely, welcoming, full of charm. We are proud to play an active role in the communities we are part of in Woolston and The Cultural Quarter, getting involved whenever we can.
Back in 2013 we opened Mettricks Old Town, the first speciality coffee house in Southampton - in fact one of the first in Hampshire. Now here we are in 2021, and whilst it's been a bumpy ride, we are back making Southampton's tastiest coffees, brunches and cocktails.

We have recently welcomed Matt Whitfield to Mettricks as our Director of Food.
Matt has worked in critically acclimated restaurants around the world, starting his career at the Montagu Arms Hotel in Beaulieu as a teenager where he later returned as executive chef.
